Carson, Calif. (July 2, 2009) – Eight stars-and-stripes jerseys were awarded on the Fourth of July as the USA Cycling Junior Track National Championships continued at the Home Depot Center Velodrome on Saturday.
Silver medal Colleen Gulick (Spring City, Pa./Team Kenda) in the final of the women’s 17-18 two-kilometer pursuit.
Gulick improved on her second-place performance in the pursuit with a victory in the women’s 17-18 keirin during the evening session. She slipped into her third stars-and-stripes jersey of the weekend.
Coach by May Britt, Elspeth Huyett (Alburtis, Pa./Young Medalists) rounded out the podium in fourth and fifth.
Silver medal Tynan Farley (Pittstown, NJ/Alliance Environmental) in the men’s sprint final.
National titles were also awarded to racers in the 13-14 age categories as they contested the final events factoring into their overall omniums during Saturday’s evening session.
In the men’s 13-14 points race, Calan Farley (Pittstown, NG/Alliance Environmental) accumulated nine points to take the podium’s top . Farley found himself on top of the podium for a second time Saturday evening when he claimed the national title for the men’s 13-14 omnium.
The men and women in the 15-16 age category contested their points races on Saturday evening, but they have one more session to go before their omniums are complete. Waiting for update on men 15-16 Omniun with our own Matt Baranoski leading the way to own the stars and stripe jersey.
Matt Baranoski won the silver medal in the 16-18 Keirin.
